AMELIA TOKARSKA

CONTEMPORARY ARTIST

About

 ABOUT ME

As a contemporary artist, my work explores the emotional landscapes of memory, personal experience, and the passage of time. I’m drawn to how perception and emotion shape our understanding of the world. Using my own photography of people and street scenes, I extract and rework elements, experimenting with colour theory and composition to create intimate portrayals of emotional states. I work primarily with acrylic paint on canvas, balancing precision with raw expression. Ultimately, my work seeks to spark a dialogue, blending recognisable details with abstraction to invite viewers to project their own memories and feelings onto the canvas.

My approach is rooted in an impressionistic exploration of emotion, focusing on the interplay of space, form, and colour to evoke feelings of longing, introspection, and connection. Soft edges, blended shapes, and textured brushstrokes transform fleeting moments—a stranger’s gaze, the glow of a city at dusk—into universal emotional experiences. I aim to reveal the beauty in life’s complexities, inviting viewers to reflect on their own perceptions and relationships. My paintings offer a layered, honest portrayal of the human condition through an immersive experience.

I draw inspiration from artists such as Edward Hopper, whose evocative use of space and architecture conveys themes of isolation, melancholy and longing; Claude Monet, whose mastery of colour and balance influenced my use of mood and atmosphere; and Vincent van Gogh, whose Post-Impressionistic style deeply influenced my energetic brushwork and emotional expression.

These influences have shaped my focus on the transformative power of colour, form, and abstraction in creating works that engage both the mind and the heart.
